Thomasville in Georgia started as an agricultural town and in the late 1800s it became known as the ‘Winter Resort of the South’. The town was an end stop for the train and a lot of wealthy people came to the area to take in the healthy air. These people often came back and started buying and building Victorian mansions and plantation homes. A lot of these old building can still be seen around town and Thomasville has a beautiful historic downtown and a large farmer’s market. Thomasville is known as the ‘City of Roses’ with an annual Rose Festival and in town there are often other festivals, exhibitions and events.
Thomasville is home to some great antique shops, vintage stores and second-hand shops as well as boutiques and specialty stores. After a day of antique shopping there are many good restaurants to choose from.
